Do Not Attempt Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation
At the beginning of 2010 the NHS South of England (SoE) Central End of Life Care (EoLC) programme team produced a new DNACPR policy for South Central. This is the first unified region wide policy to be introduced in England and there are policies for both children and adults. This provides clear guidance for local NHS staff and others providing end of life care about when resuscitation should and should not take place, taking into account the wishes of patients.
Adults Advance Care Planning Toolkit
Advance care planning is a key element of the End of Life Care (EoLC) Pathway and a key element of EoLC Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention work. Ensuring people’s wishes are known so that they can receive the care they wish in the location of their choosing where possible is an essential part of the national, regional and local EoLC Strategies. This toolkit has therefore been developed by SoE Central incorporating the different National guidance already available from the National EoLC Programme but all in one place.
Children’s Advance Care Plan
A Child and Young Person’s Advance Care Plan (ACP) is designed to communicate the health-care wishes of children or young people who have chronic and life-limiting conditions. This ACP can be used as a resuscitation plan or as an end-of-life care plan.
Tissue donation
Tissue Donation as part of End of Life Care Guidance and Advance Care Planning.
It is important that people are given the opportunity to express their wishes about their end of life care so that these can discussed with their family and care provider. Discussing preferences such as preferred place of death, wishes regarding resuscitation or Organ and Tissue Donation overcomes misunderstandings and facilitates the fulfilling of people’s wishes when they are dying, and what happens after their death. For more information about Advance Care planning in general please access the toolkit but for detailed guidance on tissue donation please access the documentand presentation below.
